Through the years, Cabriel river waters have sculpted Valencian geography, creating a fascinating and beautiful ecosystem. Settlements were established on the sides of the river. And the populations there benefited from it, generating culture, customs and traditions always related to the river. Waterwheels became common in order to make the most of the water energy for irrigation and for a variety of everyday uses. In Casas del Río, you will be able to see the last living example of it in the Valencian Community. The Cabriel train is a guided tour dedicated to the Cabriel river. The visit will let you
explore a unique ecosystem. The Cabriel river can boast about being one of the rivers with the greatest water quality in Europe. This is possible due to the depopulation of the river basin and to the absence of activities that could have a negative impact on the area.

The guided tour starts at the Hervideros de Cofrentes spa. Skirting the river bank, we will arrive to Casas del Río, a small village in which we will visit the 18th century wood waterwheel, restored in 1991. This waterwheel is the only one still properly working in the Valencian Community, and it provides the necessary water for the irrigable land and the old washing place.
